Oscar Westlund offered a conference titled «Epistemologies of News Journalism: the Salient Case of Mobile Journalism». He discussed the characteristics of mobile journalism in an era where mobile diffusion exceeds any kind of technology diffusion and people are engaging with their phones intensively throughout the day.
The professor from the University of Gothenburg was the one to open the X International Congress on Online Journalism celebrated in Bilbao

Apart from that, the Swedish professor also tackled the importance of listening when it comes to mobile journalism. «It becomes problematic to even disconnect, to get out of service», he insisted. In a time when we are so focused on our screens and all the tangible facts are from the past – everything we see is in retrospective – we need to be more aware of what is happening now, we need to pay more attention to what surrounds us.
The emphasis landed on the tools and resources available to journalists nowadays, which, as Westlund stated, are better than ever. He introduced the mojo kit, a fully equipped mobile journalism kit which allows professionals to cover any event directly from their mobile device.
